TOOKEY, Thomas (Grimwade p.683)

Post by MCB »

The apprentice indentures of 1766, contrary to Grimwade’s suggestion, records Thomas’s father as James not Thomas.
He signed a bond in 1774 to marry Ann Newton at St Alban, Wood Street; both were from St Olave parish, Wood Street.
In succession to his mother Elizabeth (Grimwade p.683) he took over payment of Land Tax on the family business premises in Silver Street in 1774 continuing there until 1776. He was then assessed to Land Tax on property in Monkwell Street.
The Will of Thomas Tookey, late silversmith of Monkwell Street, was proved for probate on 17th October 1791 (National Archives reference PROB 11/1210/82).

The mark ( Roman Capitals) in the posting above is Thomas Tookey's spoonmakers mark of 30 October 1773 ( Grimwade No 2944)

An example of his later mark (Stylised Script) , again as spoonmaker, of 24 March 1779 ( Grimwade No 2949) can be seen at
http://www.925-1000.com/forum/viewtopic ... 48&t=53024.

Both marks appear on spoons
