SIDAWAY, John (Grimwade p.658)

Post by MCB »

He was probably the son of John and Elizabeth Sidaway of Horse Shoe Lane who was christened in 1751 at St Leonard, Shoreditch.
He entered a mark in 1777 at Goldsmiths’ Hall from 10 Little Britain
Three children of John and Sarah Sidaway were christened at St John the Baptist, Clerkenwell between 1781 and 1783.
A daughter of John and Jane Siddeway (sic) of Little Britain was christened at St Sepulchre, Holborn in 1786.
In 1790 he paid for a trade directory entry at 10 Little Britain as a silversmith and jeweller and was assessed to Land Tax on property there until 1792.
In 1793 the assessment on the property was made in the name of Thomas Sidaway who may have been his brother (born 1753).
John Sidaway again appears in the Land Tax assessment books for 1794, this time at Mitchell Street near Brick Lane. He remained there until 1798.
No later information has been found for him.
