SCHAFFER, John (Grimwade p.653)

Post by MCB »

He was born John Thomas Schaffer in 1787, the son of George and Elizabeth.
His only mark entered at Goldsmiths' Hall was in 1810 as a small worker in partnership with John Peters at 20 Old Compton Street, Soho.
His marriage to Maria Ann Yelverton was held at St George, Hanover Square in 1811; both were from that parish.
Christenings of their children at various London churches record their father’s occupation and address as a hatter from St Marylebone in 1814, as a jeweller from Goswell Street, Clerkenwell in 1816-19 and as an engraver from White Lion Street, Clerkenwell in 1827.
The 1841 UK Census listed him as an engine turner at Spenser Street, Clerkenwell.
His burial in 1849 aged 63 years, late of Ashby Street, was recorded at St James, Clerkenwell.
