He was christened in 1810 at St Olave, Silver Street, the son of James and Joyce Samways.
He entered a mark at Goldsmiths’ Hall in 1832 as a plate worker from Falcon Place, Falcon Square.
His application in 1833 for freedom by patrimony in the Loriners Company shows he was born in Monkwell Street
The 1837 Electoral Register listed him in the Loriners Company and still at Falcon Place.
His marriage to Hannah in 1837 is recorded in the City of London register.
The christening record of their son Joseph Henry at St Alban, Wood Street in 1838 shows Joseph senior had become a victualler at 13 Silver Street.
The 1841 and 1851 UK Census records show he continued at the same address in the same trade.
His death was registered at St Luke’s in 1859.
