All records found show the name as Lewis Portal or Portall.
He married Esther Noutier in 1710 at St Dunstan and All Saints, Stepney.
The birth and burial of their son Lewis was recorded in October 1719 at St Ann, Blackfriars.
Assessments to Land Tax were made on Lewis Portal from 1719-37 as a tenant of property in Blackfriars.
George, the son of Lewis and Mary Portal, was christened at St Ann Blackfriars in 1732.
Land Tax assessments were made on property in St Martin le Grand from 1738-53. There was a new tenant in 1754.
The later christening of George Portal and the change of mother’s name may suggest a father and son with the same name but the birth of a second son Lewis has not been traced.
There was an entry of a mark at Goldsmiths Hall from a property in St Martin le Grand in 1758 but an absence of a Lewis Portal from Land Tax assessments in years following 1753.

Re: PORTAL, Louis (Grimwade p.630)
It might not relate, but in view of the St Martin le Grande address, the Will of Louis Portal, Gentleman of Saint Martins Le Grand within Westminster, which was proved at PCC on 12 November 1772 (Ref TNA/:PROB 11/982/241) may that of the silversmith as a long retired man, or of his son.
