PONTIFEX, Daniel (Grimwade p.629, 764)

Post by MCB »

Burke’s Family Records shows David Henry Pontifex born in 1768 in Hughendon, Buckinghamshire the son of William and Hannah.
His brother was Russell Pontifex (Grimwade p.317).
He married Harriet Bland at St Bride’s, Fleet Street in 1793; both were recorded from that parish whereas Burke’s Family Records shows she was from Hammersmith.
He applied for freedom by redemption in the Plaisterers Company in 1793. The document is endorsed “silversmith”.
Although Grimwade notes his father's place of origin, the freedom paper shows that his father was then at Hosier Lane and a gentleman. He was assessed to Land Tax on property in Hosier Lane from 1791-1795, in Hammersmith from 1803-8 (as proprietor from 1804) and in Jerusalem Court, St John’s Square, Clerkenwell from 1806-10.
A website family tree shows he was buried in Trelleck, Monmouthshire in 1826.
