MILLS and SARBITT, Dorothy (Grimwade p.597, 651)

Post by MCB »

Grimwade notes that, as Dorothy Mills the widow of Hugh Mills (Grimwade p.597), Heal attributed to her a mark of 1748-9 in partnership with Thomas Sarbitt (Grimwade p.651) and presumes she married Thomas prior to 13th December 1753 when she entered a mark at Goldsmiths Hall in her new name.
A bond dated 22nd November 1753 was however signed by John Sarbitt, a bachelor of St James, Clerkenwell parish, to marry the widow Dorothy Mills of St Andrew, Holborn parish at the parish church of Hendon.
The church record of the marriage has not been found.

22 November 1753 John Sarbitt of the parish of Saint James Clerkenwell batchelor and watchmaker took an oath to marry Dorothy Mills widow. This of course is largely a repeat of what Mike had already posted with the addition of John's trade. These marriage allegations had copies on file as well as ledger entries. The ledger entries seem to typically leave off any information about a trade.
