COTTON, John (Grimwade p.473)

Post by MCB »

He was christened John Hynde in 1799 at St Paul, Deptford, the son of John Hynde Cotton and wife Elizabeth.
His sons William born 1801 and John Wallace born 1802 were made free by patrimony in the Goldsmiths Company in 1832 and 1825 respectively.
Joseph Horton, son of Thomas Horton, silver buckle cutter of Horse Shoe Alley, Moorfields, signed indentures in 1810 to be the apprentice of John Hynde Cotton of the Goldsmiths Company and silver spoon maker of Wood Street. Joseph Horton was turned over to William Chawner in 1811 and again turned over to William Eley in 1815, suggesting Cotton had ceased in business.
