BROCKWELL, Henry (Grimwade p.450, 739)

Post by MCB »

The possibility that Henry Brockwell senior, a silversmith born in 1763, entered the mark at Goldsmiths Hall from 80 Leather Lane in 1821 cannot be discounted as the record of his death has proved elusive and no connection has been found for his son at that address.
Henry William, the son of Henry Brockwell, a silversmith and his wife Elizabeth, was christened at St Giles, Cripplegate in 1790. His uncles were probably William (Grimwade p.450) and John Brockwell (Grimwade p.450).
He obtained freedom in the Goldsmiths Company in 1811.
He married Eleanor (also known as Ellen) Jones at St Pancras parish chapel in 1816; both were from that parish.
Frederick Henry, the son of Henry William and Ellen Brockwell of Goswell Street Road, was christened in 1817 at St Pancras. His father was recorded as a silversmith.
Another son William Horatio was christened at St Andrew, Holborn in 1821 when their address was Brook Street.
His wife Eleanor’s burial aged 31 years, late of “St Andrew’s”, was recorded in 1826 at St James, Clerkenwell.
As a widower he married Ann Charlotte Allen at St Giles Cripplegate in 1831
He is shown on the 1841 and 1851 UK Census as a shopman to a glass merchant. He was living with his wife Ann Charlotte at Baker Street, Clerkenwell.
His burial aged 61 years in 1851, late of Baker Street, was recorded at St James, St Pancras.
His son Frederick William was recorded as a glass merchant in 1851, went on to enter his own mark at Goldsmiths Hall in 1859 and set up business at 79-80 Leather Lane. His father had entered his own mark from that address in 1821.
