He was christened the son of Benjamin and Frances Stacy at St Anne and St Agnes in 1787. Although his father had been made free of the Goldsmiths Company in 1787 indentures for an apprentice signed in the same year show he was trading as a tailor from St Martin le Grande parish.
He married Ann (known as Nancy) Frost at St Dunstan in the West in 1807; both were from that parish.
Christening records at St Dunstan’s for six of their children show their addresses in 1809 as Fleet Street, in 1810 Carey Street, in 1812 and 1813 Grange Court and in 1815 Princes Road, Kennington. The records from 1813 show he was a jeweller.
He was made free by patrimony in the Goldsmiths Company in 1815.
Christening records at St Dunstan’s for four more of their children show their addresses in 1817 as King’s Head Court, St Paul’s Churchyard, in 1819 Theobald Road, in 1821 Spa Fields and in 1824 St James, Clerkenwell, in all of which he was shown as a jeweller.
He entered marks at Goldsmiths Hall in 1823 as a goldworker from 2 Charlotte Street, Clerkenwell and in 1826 notified a move to 65 Aldersgate Street. This may be an error and should read number 165 Aldersgate Street which is the address on the indentures signed in 1827 for his son William to be his apprentice.
His wife Nancy died at Aldersgate Street in 1841 which is perhaps why he was recorded out at Ballinger Common, Great Missenden of independent means on the UK Census in that year.
He was back at 165 Aldersgate in 1851 as a Secretary of an Institution and at 4 Outwell Terrace, Kennington in 1861 as an Officer of the Corporation.
He died there in 1861. Letters of Administration were granted at the Principal Registry in the same year. The value of his estate was less than £200.
