HITCHMAN, Thomas (Grimwade p.381)

Post by MCB »

Goldworkers List (Section VII).

He entered a mark at Goldsmiths Hall in 1783 as a goldworker from Grafton Street, St Anne’s Square and notified a change of address in 1798 to 10 Portland Street, Soho from where John Edington (Grimwade p.500) also entered marks from 1799-1806.
As a goldsmith from St James, Westminster he had paid Duties for Edington’s apprentice indentures in 1788. The Duty paid register indicates he was a Freeman of London but does not make clear in which Company.
His burial in 1827 aged 83 years, late of Pratt Place, was recorded at St Pancras parish church.
His Will dated 1824 recited that he had retired as a goldsmith in that year and named John Edington as his business partner and one of his executors. The value of his estate was under £4000.
