Goldworkers List (Section VII).
He entered a mark at Goldsmiths Hall in 1823 as a gold worker from 47 Frith Street, Soho.
He married Anne Wood at St Anne, Soho in 1826.
The christening record for their son John in 1827 at All Souls, St Marylebone shows their address as 36 Pollard Street but, unhelpfully, refers to his father simply as in “trade”. John’s burial aged 10 months in 1828 recorded at St George the Martyr, Queen Square shows his last address as Gloucester Street.
The christening record of their son Charles in 1829 at St George the Martyr shows his father as a working jeweller; the address is unreadable,
The christening of their son George in 1832 at St George, Bloomsbury shows their address only as Bloomsbury and his father as a jeweller.
The indentures signed in 1843 for his son Charles to be the apprentice of William Hinton of the Goldsmiths Company, jeweller of Great Suffolk Street, Borough, Surrey shows John James Franc as late of St Luke’s parish, Chelsea.
There is a burial in 1836 of a John James France aged 52 years, late of Oakham Street, Chelsea, recorded at St Luke Chelsea which is probably relevant despite the different spelling of the surname.
FRANC, John James (Grimwade p.366)
