COLEMAN, John (Grimwade p.364)

Post by MCB »

Goldworkers List (Section VII).

Indentures were signed in 1768 for John, the son of William Coleman of the Clothmakers Company and of Maiden Lane, to be the apprentice of Peter Caron of the Goldsmiths Company and jeweller of Aldermanbury. He was made free in 1775.
He entered a mark at Goldsmiths Hall in 1777 as a gold worker from 16 Maiden Lane, Wood Street and notified a change of address to 115 Newgate Street in 1782. He had appeared in trade directories as a goldsmith and jeweller at that address from 1779-1784.
As a goldsmith he paid Duty in 1784 for the apprentice indentures of David Tonne.
Indentures were signed in 1785 by David, son of David Coleman of Southampton, to be his apprentice as a jeweller in Strand, London.
The name John Coleman is numerous in London and further detail relating to the goldsmith of that name is unclear.
