Post by MCB »

Goldworkers List (Section VII).

He was christened at St John, Horsleydown, Bermondsey in 1773, the son of John and Joanna.
Free of the Turners Company he paid Duty in 1801 from Greek Street for the apprentice indentures of John Bolton.
He entered a mark at Goldsmiths Hall in 1804 as a gold worker from 53 Greek Street, Soho.
He married Sarah Seymour in 1805 at St James, Paddington. She was the widow of James Seymour of Greek Street who had died in 1801.
Their son Edmund Horatio was christened at St Anne, Soho in 1806. He died at Gerrard Street in 1823.
Edmund senior is entered in the Poll Lists of 1816 and 1818 as a jeweller at that address and paid Land Tax on property there in 1825.
Sarah Seymour died there aged 70 years in 1838.
The 1841 and 1851 UK Census for the same address recorded him as an engraver and enameller living with his son James who was in the same trade.
The catalogue of the 1851 Great Exhibition shows an enamelled gold vase made by Edmund and James trading as Seymour & Sons.
Edmund Seymour aged 78 years was buried in 1851 at All Saints, Kensal Green. His last address remained at Gerrard Street.
