He was christened at St Luke, Finsbury in 1794, the son of John and Sarah.
He married Elizabeth Baxter at Christ Church, Newgate in 1816.
He had entered a mark at Goldsmiths Hall in 1815 as a case maker from 5 Noble Street, Goswell Street and notified changes of address to 42 Seward Street at an unrecorded date, to 14 Gastigney Place, Radnor Street, St Luke’s in 1821 and to 42 Rahere Street, St Luke’s at another unrecorded date. He entered another mark in 1833 as a watch case maker from 48 Rahere Street and was still living there and in the same trade in 1841.
The burial of his wife Elizabeth aged 57 years, late of Howard? Green, was recorded at St Luke’s in 1848.
The UK Census 1851 record for him has proved elusive.
The marriage of Stephen Bryan to Elizabeth Mary Smith was registered in Hackney in 1860.
They were living at 1 Hope Cottage, Myrtle Street, Dalton, Hackney in 1861 where he continued as a watch maker.
He had retired by 1871 and lived at 27 Myrtle Street, Dalton where he died in 1876.
His Will was proved at the Principal Registry in 1876 and the final value of his estate determined in 1877 at under £7000.
