TYAS, John Abram (Grimwade p.299, 341)

Post by MCB »

He was christened at St Giles, Cripplegate in 1805, the son of William and Mary.
He signed indentures in 1820 as the son of the late William Tyas, watch maker of Goswell Street, to be the apprentice of Matthew Govett (Grimwade p.313, 345) of the Goldsmiths Company, Ironmonger Row, Old Street.
He married Jane Linnecar in Hampstead in 1828.
He entered a mark at Goldsmiths Hall in 1829 as a watch case maker from 9 Clerkenwell Green.
The christening record of their daughter Jane at St James, Clerkenwell in 1830 shows their address as St James’ Buildings and her father continuing as a watch case maker.
Changes of address were notified to Goldsmiths Hall in 1831 to 77 Rahere Street, in 1833 to 36 Seward Street from where he entered another maker’s mark in 1834 and in 1836 to 11 Red Lion Street.
Rahere Street was the address noted on the christening record of daughter Marianne at St James in 1831.
Indentures were signed in 1837 by William Isaac, son of William Stiffin, tailor of Queen Street, Islington to be his apprentice as a goldsmith and jeweller at the same address as previously noted.
Red Lion Street was the address noted on the christening records of son John Abram and daughter Jane at St James in 1838 where he was again shown as a watch case maker.
His burial aged 35 years, late of St John’s Square, was recorded at St James in 1840.
