SAUNDERS, Joseph (Grimwade p.341)

Post by MCB »

He was christened in 1793 at St Andrew, Holborn, the son of Joseph and Ann Mary Saunders of Chick Lane.
He married Honora Hunt at Christ Church, London in 1819; both were from that parish. She was born in Yeovil, Somerset.
He entered a mark at Goldsmiths Hall in February 1820 in partnership with John Church (also Grimwade p.339) as watch case makers from Ironmongers Row and another alone from the same address in March 1820.
The christening record for son Samuel at St James, Clerkenwell in 1822 shows Joseph as a watch case maker and their address as Saffron Hill.
The christening records for two of their children at St Andrew, Holborn in 1824 and 1825 show their address as Clerkenwell and Saffron Hill respectively and their father continuing in the watch case trade.
The christening records for two more of their children at St Andrew in 1828 and 1830 show their father still in the same trade but their address as Ray Street.
The family were at Britannia Street, Gray’s Inn Road for the 1841 UK Census. Joseph had become a tripe man.
They were at the same address in 1851 where Joseph was a cow keeper.
His burial in 1853 aged about 61 years, late of Britannia Street, was recorded at St Pancras parish church.
