Post by MCB »

He was christened in 1792, the son of Thomas (Grimwade p.641) and Ann Richards, at Barbican Independent (Church/Chapel?), St Giles, Cripplegate.
He entered maker’s marks at Goldsmiths Hall in 1823 from number 17 and in 1837 from 19 Bridgewater Square. Bridgewater Square had previously been the business address of both his father and grandfather James (Grimade p.307, 340).
In 1828 he was made free by patrimony in the Goldsmiths Company.
Matthew Wilkes Richards the son of George was made free by patrimony in the Goldsmiths Company in 1877. He was christened in 1829 at the Independent Tabernacle, St Luke’s Finsbury. His mother was Sarah.
No 1841 UK Census record has been found for the family.
George is recorded as a retired watch case manufacturer on the 1851 UK Census, living with his wife Sarah (born in Birmingham around 1796) and two sons at 48 South Street Upper Mile End Old Town, Stepney.
No 1861 UK Census record has been found for him.
In 1871 he and his wife were living with his son Matthew at Shore Road, Hackney.
His death aged 81 years was recorded in the Hackney register in 1873
