HANET, Paul (Grimwade p.532, 751)

The sources for the information given there are not readily apparent unless noted * in this text and should therefore be read at face value.
He is said to have been born in Paris in 1677, the son of Nicolas and Catherine nee Hubet.
*A list of duties paid for indentures in 1715 includes the name Paul Hanet in connection with an apprentice William Wallis. No detail is given of Hanet’s Livery Company, his address or his occupation; the date of payment precedes the freedom date in 1716 which Grimwade notes for him.
*Another list of duties paid for indentures in 1719 includes the name of the apprentice Paul or Saul Hanett, the son of Paul of the Longbowstringmakers Company, who was turned over from his father to John Birdwhistle (Grimwade p.309) of the same company.
*The website http://familysearch.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; identifies christenings of the children of Paul Hanet as follows: Magdalene in 1703 and Marie in 1705 both at Savoy de Springs Gardens and Des Grecs French Huguwest, Westminster; Elizabet in 1707, Marie Anne in 1712, Jeanne in 1715, Estienne (sic) in 1716 and Pierre in 1717 all at West Street French Huguenot, Westminster. The christening record in 1720 which Grimwade noted has not been traced nor has one of a son Paul or Saul noted above as the apprentice turned over to John Birdwhistle.
Paul Hanet senior aged 65 years is said to have died in St Giles in the Fields parish in 1742 .

The 1742 death date given above is confirmed by Paul Hanet's will, proved at PCC on 22 March 1742 as

"Will of Paule or Paul Hanet, of the Company of Long Bow String Makers of London and Goldsmith by Trade of Saint Giles in the Fields , Middlesex"

7 May 1715 Paul Hanet admitted into the freedom of the city by redemption in the company of long bow string makers paying forty-six shillings and eight pound.
