KEEFF, Thomas (Grimwade p.321, 350)

Post by MCB »

He was christened at All Hallows Staining, the son of Thomas and Mary, in 1798.
He entered a maker’s mark at Goldsmiths Hall in 1824 as a watch case maker from 41 Clerkenwell Close and in 1832 as a case maker from Myddleton Street, Clerkenwell. He notified a change of address to 22 Rosomans Row in 1834 and another back to Myddleton Street in 1835.
On the 1841 UK Census he was shown as a watch case maker living at Wilmington Square, Clerkenwell.
The 1851 Census record has not been found.
The London Royal Blue Book for 1860 lists him living at 5 Devonshire Terrace, West Brompton where he remained for the 1861 UK Census where he was listed as a proprietor of houses.
The Hackney register shows he married in 1864 but is not cross referenced to identify his wife’s full name.
His death in 1865 was also registered at Hackney.
Probate of his Will was granted to his widow Elizabeth in the same year at the Principal Registry. His last address was 6 Carlton Place, Stoke Newington and the value of his estate under £800.

Thomas "Keep" is listed in the 1851 UK census as a house proprietor in Clerkenwell, Middlesex at 33 Gloucester Street. Elizabeth Painting who was twenty-eight years his junior is listed in the household as a servant. The marriage of Thomas Keeff to Elizabeth Painting is documented in second quarter Hackney, London records.
