COLLIER, William (Grimwade p.326, 352)

Post by MCB »

UK Census entries show he was born in Dorset around 1792.
He entered a maker’s mark at Goldsmiths Hall in 1813 as a pendant maker from Rose Street, detail confirmed by the christening of a daughter at St Luke, Finsbury in the same year recording the same address. Her mother was named as Mary.
Christenings of a further eight of their children at St Luke from 1814-26 have their address as Ironmonger Street or Row .
Christenings of a further three of their children at the same church from 1829-34 show their address as Bath Street from where William entered further maker’s marks in 1827 and 1831.
All records describe him as a pendant maker or watch maker.
The 1841 UK Census shows William as a silversmith aged 49 years at 33 Alfred Street, Islington where by 1861 he had retired. He was at the same address on the 1871 Census.
His death aged 79 years was recorded in the Islington Registry in 1871.

Nothing substantial to add from the 1851 UK census other than he was apparently still working as a watch pendant maker and living at the Alfred Street address.
