THICKBROOM, Alfred (Grimwade p.288, 333)

Post by MCB »

He was christened the son of George (Grimwade p.337) and Rachel Thickbroom at Lady Huntingdon’s, Spa Fields, Clerkenwell in 1807. He was also known as Alford.
He married Ann Dutton at St Pancras parish church in 1830; both were from that parish.
The christening records at St Leonard, Shoreditch in 1833 and 1835 for sons George and James respectively show their father as a watch case maker from Galway Street or St Leonard’s.
He entered maker’s marks at Goldsmiths Hall in 1829, 1836 and 1839 from Galway Street.
James Thickbroom (Grimwade p.312) entered a maker’s mark as a case maker from the same address in 1832.
The 1841 UK Census recorded him at the same address.
The 1851-71 UK Census records show him at Spencer Street, Clerkenwell.
Throughout he was shown as a watch case maker or watch enameller.
The National Probate Calendar of Wills shows he died in 1877. His last address was Spencer Street and the value of his estate under £1000.
He was succeeded in the business at Spencer Street by his son George.
