SMITH, Alexander (Grimwade p.288)

Post by MCB »

Christening records at St Martin in the Fields 1814 and 1815 for two children of Alexander and Sarah Smith show their address as 3 Bedfordbury.
He entered a maker’s mark at Goldsmiths Hall in 1822 as a small worker from 9 May’s Buildings, St Martin’s Lane.
The christening record in 1823 at St Martin in the Fields of Harriett, daughter of Alexander and Harriett Smith, shows their address as 9 May’s Buildings.
Two further christening records for their children at St Martin in the Fields in 1830 and 1832 show their address again as Bedfordbury.
All of the christening records show Alexander as a silversmith or silver plater.
In 1851 he was living at Cremorne Road, Chelsea aged 65 years, a silver plater employing 3 men.
Alexander had died before 1861 when his widow Harriett was recorded on the UK Census still at Cremorne Road and continuing the silver plate business.
