NEVILL, John (Grimwade p.306)

Post by MCB »

He was christened the son of John and Mary Nevill at St Botolph, Bishopsgate in 1759.
He married Sarah Hall at St Andrew, Holborn in 1782; both were from that parish.
The christening record of daughter Sarah at the same church in 1783 shows their address was Grays Inn Lane and also at the same church in 1787 for another daughter Mary shows they lived in Clerkenwell.
He had entered a maker’s mark at Goldsmiths Hall in 1786 as a case maker from 14 Cold Bath Lane, Clerkenwell.
A son John was christened in 1788 at St James, Clerkenwell but no further information was recorded.
He was listed in the Universal British Directory of 1791 as a clock and watch maker at Magdalen Street.
As a Citizen and Clockmaker he paid duties for the Apprentice Indentures of John Baxter (Grimwade p.299, 338?) in 1786, William Mansell (Grimwade p.329) in 1790, Robert Yates in 1791, Joshua Field in 1792 and Joshua Downes in 1799.
He notified a change of address in 1801 to 4 Vineyard Walk, Clerkenwell.
His burial in 1836 aged 78 years, late of Vineyard Walk, was recorded at St James, Clerkenwell.
