LEEMING, Edward (Grimwade p.293, 335)

Post by MCB »

Indentures were signed in 1754 by an Edward, son of Edward Leeming from Middleham, Yorkshire to be the apprentice of Edward Bradshaw (Grimwade p.447) Citizen and Clockmaker.
He married Anne Warne at St Leonard, Shoreditch in 1768; both were from that parish.
Christenings of ten of their children were recorded at St Botolph, Aldersgate or St Sepulchre Holborn 1770-90 without detail of address or father’s occupation.
His first maker’s mark was entered at Goldsmiths Hall in 1777 as a watch case maker from 24 Giltspur Street from where he entered another mark as a case worker in 1781.
He notified a move to Cross Key Court, Little Britain in 1785 and Trade Directory entries record him as a watch and clockmaker there in 1790.
Indentures were signed for Robert Skinner (Grimwade p.347) in 1783 and Samuel Brough (Grimwade p.347) in 1784 to be his apprentices. As a Clockmaker of London he also paid duties for the Apprentice Indentures of David Pauchard in 1779, Griffith Downe (Grimwade p.295) in 1794 and Cornelius Adams in 1796.
He entered further marks from 122 Bunhill Row in 1796 and there is an entry for him at that address in the City of London Poll Book of 1796 and in Indentures signed in 1799 for his son to be the apprentice to a butcher.
His final maker’s mark was entered in 1800 as a watch case maker from 36 Monkwell Street.
There is a reference in the Extracted Parish Records of Clerkenwell to a monument in Charterhouse chapel with the date 1819 which carries his name.
