TRISTRAM, Benjamin (Grimwade p.289, 333)

Post by MCB »

Indentures were signed in 1753 by Benjamin, son of Benjamin Tristram, Gentleman of Barking, to be the apprentice of Thomas Soans, Citizen and Goldsmith.
Despite the 1764 marriage record for Benjamin Tristram at St Pancras parish church naming the bride as Catherine Gillmore the lady who actually signed the register was Mary Gimson, Mary being the mother of four of his children named in christening records 1765-77 at various Holborn churches. None of these records show their address.
He entered maker’s marks at Goldsmiths Hall in 1764 in partnership with John Cattas as watch case makers, 1766 alone as a case maker and 1777 as a watch case maker, all from Huggin’s Alley.
The christening record at St Andrew, Holborn in 1780 of John, the son of Benjamin and Mary Tristram, shows their address as Leather Lane.
No death or burial record has been found for him.
