GALLOWAY, Henry (Grimwade p.295)

Post by MCB »

He was born in 1794 and christened in 1807 the son of Henry and Mary at St Thomas, Southwark.
He entered a maker’s mark at Goldsmiths Hall in 1816 as a case maker from 49 Coppice Row, Clerkenwell.
He married Mary Ann Atkins at St Bride, Fleet Street in 1817; both were from that parish.
He notified a change of address to Woods Place, Bowling Green Lane and again in 1819 to Bartholomew Square, St Luke’s. The christening record of son Charles at St Luke, Finsbury in 1820 recorded him from that address.
In 1821 he moved again to 38 Reeves Place, Hoxton.
The christening record for daughter Mary Ann in 1824 at St Mary, Islington shows their address as Windsor Street.
They moved again in 1826 to Upper Clifton Street, Finsbury.
The christening record for daughter Jesse in 1828 shows their address as Windsor Side.
In 1841 they were recorded at Commons Buildings Pentonville where he is shown as a goldsmith.
By 1851 they were at St Nicholas Street, Hoxton and still there on the 1861 UK Census.
Other than the reference to goldsmith in 1841 Henry was shown in all records as a watch case maker.
There is a death of a Henry Galloway recorded without other detail in the Shoreditch register in 1866.
