WHITEHOUSE, Nathaniel (Grimwade p.284)

Post by MCB »

He was christened the son of David (Grimwade p.699) and Mary Whitehouse of Holywell Mount at St Leonard, Shoreditch in 1790.
He married Charlotte Marsh (born 1793) at St John, Clerkenwell in August 1809; both were from that parish. Charlotte was buried at St John the Baptist in February 1810.
As a widower he married Elizabeth Sutton at St Giles without Cripplegate in October 1810.
He entered a maker’s mark at Goldsmiths Hall in 1810 as a small worker from 48 Red Lion Street, Clerkenwell.
He notified Goldsmiths Hall of a change of address to 7 Bishops Court, Aylesbury Street in 1810.
Christening records for their children at St Andrew, Holborn 1812-20 show their father was a spectacle maker and latterly an optician. Their address in 1812 was St James, Clerkenwell, in 1813 Laystall Street, in 1815 21 Mount Pleasant and thereafter Holborn. He had notified changes of address to Goldsmiths Hall to 34 Leather Lane in 1816 and to Holborn in 1817.
In 1821 he notified he had moved to 1 Cross Street, Hatton Garden.
His burial aged about 45 years was recorded in 1833 at St James, Clerkenwell; his last address was Monmouth Street.
His son Nathaniel (born 1813) is also recorded as an optician.
