He entered maker’s marks at Goldsmiths Hall 1787-1803 from Ship Court, Old Bailey as a smallworker.
The son of John Troby, musician of St Ann, Soho, he was admitted in 1797 to the Company of Farriers by redemption (a silversmith).
Christening records 1789-93 at St Martin, Ludgate for three children, including his son William Bamford Troby, show his wife as Mary.
Thomas Ballam signed Indentures in 1797 to be the apprentice of John Troby, Citizen, Farrier silversmith and plater.
No record of death has been found.

He was assessed to Land Tax on property in St Martin parish, Ludgate from 1786-1804. This probably related to Ship Court from where he had entered marks from 1791-1803 at Goldsmiths’ Hall as a plateworker.
