SULLIVAN, Richard (Grimwade p.674)

Post by MCB »

He was born c1796 in Deptford.
He married Jane Earle at St George, Hanover Square in 1817; both were from that parish.
The christening record at the same church for a daughter in 1818 showed their address as St Ann’s.
Christening records at St Alphege, Greenwich in 1819 and 1821 for two of their children show their address as Maidenstone Hill and two further christenings recorded at the same church in 1824 and 1826 show their address as Blackheath Hill.
He entered a maker’s mark at Goldsmiths Hall in 1826 from 11 Blackheath Hill, Greenwich.
Five more christening records 1827-1832 at the same church or St Paul, Deptford show their address as Deptford Bridge.
All of the christening records show Richard as a jeweller.
He remained a jeweller at Deptford Bridge for the 1841 UK Census.
The 1851 UK Census for 22 Church Street, Deptford shows him as a watch case finisher.

1856 Richard Sullivan listed in the London Post Office Directory as a Watch and Clockmaker at Church Street Deptford.

1858 Richard Sullivan listed in Melville's Directory as a Jeweller at Church Street Deptford. (In the 1861 UK Census Jane Sullivan aged sixty-five years Widow is listed at 82 Church Street Deptford, so it appears likely that Richard died sometime between 1857 and then.)
