RUGG, Richard II (not in Grimwade but see 648)

Post by buckler »

Thanks to detective work done by MCB (Mike) on Richard RUGG, -see http://www.925-1000.com/forum/viewtopic ... 74&t=28187" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; we know know that Grimwade almost certainly conflated a father and his son in his entry on Richard RUGG on page 648.
It appears that the father, Richard RUGG I, died in 1775 and it was his son, Richard RUGG II, who entered the mark as plateworker at St John Square on 18 March 1775, five days after his father's burial. If anyone has a copy of the will , probated at PCC on 22nd March 1775 (NA PROB 11/1006) we would appreciate seeing a copy please

Richard RUGG II was born in 1749, apprenticed to his father in 1763, and free in 1770. First and only known mark 1775
He is probably the one Grimwade records as dying in the period 1795 - 1801.

Whether we should call him Richard RUGG II or Richard RUGG junior is a debatable point .
