He was christened in 1803 at St Vedast, Foster Lane, the son of James Samuel (Grimwade p.639) and Mary Anne Reily.
He was granted freedom of the City of London in 1824 by patrimony in the Company of Fishmongers.
He entered a maker’s mark at Goldsmiths Hall in 1826 from 6 Carey Lane in partnership with his mother Mary Reily (Grimwade p.639-70), a second mark in 1829 from the same address in partnership with George Storer (Grimwade 671-2, 768), a third mark in 1835 in the same partnership from Lovel’s Court, Paternoster Row and further marks in 1836 and 1840 in the same partnership back at 6 Carey Lane.
The christening records at St Vedast, Foster Lane dated 1832 for George Hyde, 1833 for Mary Louise and 1840 for Helena Cecilia, children of Charles and Mary Reily, show their father as a silversmith at 6 Carey Lane.
Indentures were signed in 1836 by James, son of Robert Ford deceased, packer late of Bagnio Court, Newgate to be the apprentice of Charles Reily, Citizen and Fishmonger and by trade a silversmith of 6 Carey Lane, Cheapside.
The 1841 and 1851 UK Census show him as a silversmith at 21 Loraine Place, Islington.
The 1861 UK Census recorded him as the proprietor of various funds living in Ticehurst, Sussex.
The 1871, 1881 and 1891 Census show him at Neville Park, Speldhurst, Tunbridge Wells without an occupation.
His death in 1893 was entered in the Tonbridge register.
The National Probate Calendar for the London register of 1893 has his last address as Priory, Neville Park, Tunbridge Wells; the value of his estate was £183750/1s/7d.
