HUMPHREYS, Samuel (Grimwade p.554)

Post by MCB »

The christening record of Elizabeth Humphreys in 1822 at St Martin in the Fields shows her parents as Samuel and Mary of 12 Green Street and her father as a water gilder.
The christening record of Jane Humphreys in 1824 at the same church shows her parents at the same address but her father as a jeweller.
His wife Mary’s burial in 1832 aged 40 years is recorded at the same church and shows her last address as previously noted.
The 1841-61 UK Census records for 12 Green Street show Samuel was born in St Martin in the Fields parish around 1793 and his trade as an ornament maker.
He was still at the same address for the 1871 UK Census but the record of his trade is unreadable.
He died at Green Street in 1871. His will was proved at the Principal Registry; the value of his estate was under £50.

I can make out enough of his occupation to say that he employed one man and one boy and was still involved with ornament making.

11 June 1872 Samuel Humphreys' administration of effects was granted to his widowed daughter Jane Tomlalin of 12 Green Street. Samuel Humphreys died 1 November 1871 at 12 Green Street.
