CHILCOTT, Charles William (Grimwade p.464-5)

Post by MCB »

There is a christening record in 1797 at Christ Church Spitalfields which may be relevant for a Charles Chilcott born in 1796 the son of William & Ann.
Charles William Chilcott married Elisabeth Ann Burnidge at Christ Church, Spitalfields in 1819; both were from that parish.
Christening records for two of their children in 1820 and 1821 at Christ Church show their address as Hourdells Street and their father as a silversmith.
He entered a maker’s mark at Goldsmiths Hall in 1822 from Wheeler Street, Spitalfields.
Three more of their children were christened at St Martin in the Fields in 1827, 1830 and 1831.Their address was recorded as Hunts Court, Orange Street and Strand respectively. Their father is shown as a surgeon’s instrument maker in 1827-30 and returned to silversmith in 1831.
The christening record for another child at St John, Hoxton in 1835 shows an address of Sim Street; her father had returned to being a surgeon’s instrument maker. All of the christening records show the father’s names as Charles William.
The 1841 UK Census for Pine Tree Street, Old Street shows him continuing as an instrument maker.
In 1851 he was at Salmon & Ball Court, Bunhill Row and back to being a silver worker.
There is a burial of a Charles Chilcott recorded in 1867 in the Holborn register which may be relevant showing an age at death around 72 years.; the record does not show the last address.
