He was christened the son of William and Mary at St Bartholomew the Great in 1770.
Indentures were signed in 1784 for Samuel son of William Brough, tailor of Cloth Fair to be the apprentice of Edward Leeming, Clockmaker (Grimwade p.335)
William Brough is similarly mentioned in the Indentures of Thomas Brough (Grimwade p.451) in 1788 and John Brough (Grimwade p.451) in 1796. All three were therefore brothers.
In 1793 Samuel married Elizabeth Brough (presumably a cousin) from Leek in Staffordshire at St Bartholomew the Great and in 1796, as a widower, married Elizabeth Sawtell at St Andrews by the Wardrobe where he was recorded from St Ann, Blackfriars parish.
There is no record of his having a son named Samuel and the maker’s mark entered at Goldsmiths Hall in 1808 as a smallworker at 3 King Street may be his.
Christening records at St Bartholomew the Great in 1813-17 for three children of Samuel and Elizabeth show their father as a watchcase maker at 21 Union Street, Kingsland Road.
The burial of a Samuel Brough was registered at Shoreditch in 1837 and may be relevant although no age at death or last address was recorded.

Page 42 of Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World lists him as a Liveryman in the Clockmakers Company from 1792-1825.
In 1795 Charles Idson of London signed to be his apprentice.
On the same page of the previously mentioned book William Thomas Brough is listed as his son and apprenticed in 1813. His mother was Elizabeth and he was christened at St Bartholomew the Great in 1797. Thomas, another son, was christened at the same church in 1809. Neither record shows an address.
