6th December 1797
 Proceedings of the Old Bailey
JOHN ACKLAM sworn. - I am shopman to Mr. Salkeld, pawnbroker, the corner of Bedford-street, in the Strand:.....  the woman that I took in a pair of sheets and a counterpane of, .....She pawned it for a guinea.
It would appear that John was only a shop assistant or manager to Salkeld  at this date.Â
28th May 1800
Proceedings of the Old Bailey  - a further case when he seems to describe himself as a principalÂ
JOHN ACKLAM sworn. - I am a pawnbroker, in the Strand: ...... the prisoner brought a coat and pledged it with me .... I lent her six shillings and sixpence upon it.
In 1818 a  J. P. Acklam was described in the election polling of that year as Silversmith, Strand, in the parish of St. Martin in the FieldsÂ
However in the Property Rateable Values of the same year the name of Thomas Acklam  appears at a similar address , not J.P.Â
But in 1819 the next years voting again records John Philip Acklam  as Silversmith in the Strand, St. Martins in the FieldsÂ
