CROFTS, Thomas (Grimwade p.380)

Post by MCB »

Goldworkers List (Section VII).

An application in 1850 for Freedom of the City of London by his son Willoughby Richard Crofts (born 1813) shows his father obtained his own freedom in 1799.
He married Jane Brewer at St John, Hackney in 1805; both were of that parish.
There are christening records at St James, Clerkenwell in 1805-11 for four of their children but none show further detail.
Christening records for three more of their children at the same church in 1813-17 show their father as a watch or watchcase maker from Wynyatt Street
He entered registered a maker’s mark at Goldsmiths Hall in 1817 as a goldworker at 10 Winyat (sic) Street, Clerkenwell.
A further christening record for a daughter at St James church in 1819 shows her father as a watchcase maker at Goswell Street Road.
Jane Crofts is recorded on the 1841 UK Census living with her son Willoughby. Thomas is not mentioned. His death record has not been identified.
