HITCHCOCK, William (Grimwade p.384)

Post by MCB »

Goldworkers List (Section VII).

He was born in Westminster around 1798.
His wife Agnes was recorded in the UK Census as born in Tissington, Derbyshire around 1799.
The christening records of a daughter in 1831 and another daughter in 1833 at St James, Clerkenwell both show their parents as William and Agnes of Red Lion Street. He was a jeweller.
He entered a maker’s mark in 1834 at Goldsmiths Hall as a goldworker from Red Lion Street.
Two more of their children were christened at St James on the same day in 1836. Their parents' address and his trade were the same as previously.
The 1841 UK Census records show the family had moved to 41 Kirby Street. He remained a jeweller.
By 1851 they had moved to Bartlett’s Buildings, Holborn where he was a boarding house keeper.
No record of his death has so far been traced but the 1861 UK Census shows Agnes as a widow and boarding house keeper at Bartlett’s Buildings.
