Goldworkers List (Section VII).
There is a christening record in December 1778 at St Martin in the Fields for a Thomas Habgood; parents William and Susanna.
He entered a maker’s mark at Goldsmiths Hall in 1803 as a goldworker from 5 George Street, Foster Lane. He also married Sarah Bowles Bolingbroke in that year at St Saviour, Southwark. He is recorded as from St Leonard, Foster Lane parish.
Christening records for three of their children 1814-19 at Christ Church, Newgate Street also show him as a goldsmith from George Street.
Indentures were signed in 1814 by Horatio Nelson to be his apprentice. This Horatio Nelson was the son of John Nelson deceased of Southwark. Habgood is recorded on the document as a goldsmith of George Street.
Indentures signed in 1825 by his son Thomas to be his apprentice record him as a goldsmith from Newgate Street.
Sarah Bowles Habgood's burial was recorded in 1828 at St Leonard, Foster Lane.
In 1835 he married Sara Smith, a widow, at St Pancras church.
Two Indenture documents signed in 1835 by apprentices Richard Kibble and Frederick Gaskin record him as goldsmith and jeweller of 16 Hatton Garden.
The 1841 UK Census confirms the Hatton Garden address. Apprentice Frederick Gaskin (see above) was also resident there.
The 1851 UK Census record has not been traced.
His burial aged 77 years was recorded in 1856 at All Saints, Kensal Green Cemetery. His last address was Lakenham Villa, New Road, Hammersmith.

Re: HABGOOD, Thomas (Grimwade p.381)
It appears that Thomas Habgood jnr. made a career for himself as a silversmith in Perth, Australia. Dorothy Erickson, in her Gold and Silversmithing in Western Australia, notes a Thomas Habgood, born 1813, arrived in Australia 1842 from London, working in Perth 1842-1859.
But Thomas Jnr. was not the first silversmithing Habgood to arrived in the colony, Dorothy Erickson also records one William Habgood, born 1800, arrived in Australia 1830 from London, working in Perth 1830-1845.
