There is a christening record for him dated December 1801 at St Mary, Newington, Surrey. His parents were William and Maria.
Indentures were signed by him in 1815 as the son of William Hinton, a carpenter of Newington Butts, to be an apprentice of Samuel Burman, jeweller of Hunter Street, Southwark (Grimwade p.377 or 378).
He married Margaret Bassett (born around 1805) at St Edmund the Martyr church in 1825. Both were said to be of that parish.
The christening record for a son in 1825 at St George the Martyr, Southwark shows his parents' address as Regent Street, Kent Road.
The christening record for a daughter in 1829 at Holy Trinity, Newington shows her parents' address as Adam Street and for another son in 1830 at the same church his parents' address as Trafalgar Place.
He entered a maker’s mark at Goldsmiths Hall in 1833 as a goldworker from Paragon Place, Walworth.
Christening records for a son and daughter in 1834 at Holy Trinity church confirm the Paragon Place address.
The christening of a daughter in 1835 at St George the Martyr church records her parents had moved, this time to Suffolk Street, Southwark.Throughout the years of these christenings the father continued as a jeweller.
The 1841 UK Census shows the family at Borough Road, Southwark.
The burial of his wife Margaret in 1849 is recorded at Nunhead Cemetery, Linden Grove; her last address was Great Suffolk Street.
The 1851 UK Census records him at 18 Great Suffolk Street with his family and new wife Harriett (born in Deptford in 1817).
By 1861 he had moved with his wife and three recently born children to 167 Bridge Street, Southwark.
The burial of his wife Harriet in 1863 is recorded at Nunhead Cemetery; her last last address was Bridge Street.
Either a street re-numbering or another move saw him recorded in 1871 with a new wife Susannah (born 1824 in Southwark) at 166 Bridge Street and still a jeweller.
He died on 26th August 1873 at the Bridge Street address aged 71 years. The National Probate Calendar for the Principal Registry shows his wife Susannah as executrix of his Will and the value of his estate under £1000.
