Post by MCB »

Goldworkers List (Section VII).

He married Charlotte Rich at St Dunstan in the West in 1818. He was recorded as from Freedom of the Rolls and she from St Andrew, Holborn parish.
Christening records 1819-1833 at St Dunstan in the West for their six children all show the parents’ address as 7 Searle’s Place and the father’s trade as goldsmith or jeweller.
UK Census records 1841-51 repeat the same address and trade as before.
A burial record at St Sepulchre, Holborn shows his wife Charlotte died in 1842.
A document in 1854 records his son Benjamin (born 1826), a goldsmith and jeweller at 35 Ludgate Hill, applying to be admitted to freedom of the City of London by redemption in the Company of Cooks.
The 1861 Census records show his son Benjamin living with him; both were widowers and goldsmiths.
A burial record at St James, St Pancras shows Benjamin Stephens (the Elder) died in 1864 aged 73 years. The National Probate Calendar for Principal registry dated 14th March 1865 shows his last address was 7 Searle’s Place. The value of his estate was under £8000.
