Post by MCB »

Goldworkers List (Section VII).

He was born in Shoreditch on 10th February 1789.
William Henry Cowbrick was christened at St Leonard, Shoreditch on 6th April 1789. Only his mother Margaret is named on the record; her address was WH (workhouse?).
He entered a maker’s mark at Goldsmiths Hall in 1830 as a goldworker from 40 Well Street, Oxford Street.
William and Jane children of William and Jane Cowbrick are recorded christened at St Sepulchre, Holborn in 1817-8; the father is shown in both registers as a jeweller from White Horse Alley. Mary Teresa a child of William and Jane Cowbrick was christened at St Marylebone, Westminster in 1832; the father is recorded as “in trade” at 40 Well Street.
The only other trace currently found of the family is an entry in the 1851 UK Census for 9 Chances Row, Tottenham where William is recorded as a jeweller aged 63 years living with his daughter Teresa aged 19 years.
