William Forrester was the nephew of the Perth (Scotland) silversmith Robert Keay the Elder.

A series of letters from William Forrester to his uncle, dated 1825-1842, are held in the Perth and Kinross Archive Collection.

William is also likely to be the brother of Joseph Forrester who was transported to Van Diemans Land (Tasmania) in 1829, and later became one of Australia's finest silversmiths.
