He was born in Dorchester in 1783 the son of Thomas and Roseman (sic).
There are christening records in 1806 at St Giles, Cripplegate and in 1807 and 1809 at St James Clerkenwell for children of Anthony and Elizabeth Cox; these records show no detail of their parents address. The christening of another child at St John, Clerkenwell in 1813 records their address as Red Lion Street and Anthony as a jeweller.
A document dated in 1816 applying for freedom of the City of London in the Company of Goldsmiths records he had completed 7 years as the apprentice of Richard Hobdell (Grimwade p.376), goldsmith of Addle Street.
Indentures were signed in 1820 for Anthony Cox (born 1806) to be the apprentince of his father Anthony Cox, jeweller of Red Lion Street.
He entered makers’ marks at Goldsmiths Hall in 1822 and 1823 as a goldworker from that address.
In 1824 Indentures were signed for George Knowler of Islington to be his apprentice at that address at a premium of £50.
