Re: BASNETT, Willam (Grimwade p.715)
Two Wills were registered for probate:
Of William Basnett ,a jeweller of Bath, on 2nd August 1813;
Of William Basnett of Bath on 4th February 1853.
The forum topic referred to in the previous post identifies the name as a goldsmith and jeweller in Bond Street in 1792 and in Milsom Street in 1819.
Grimwade notes the first mark in this name was registered in 1812 from Bond Street, the second from Milsom Street in 1833 and the third from Ruby Place in 1837.The Census records referred to above indicate William Basnett of Ruby Place was born around 1779. It is unlikely he would have been listed as a jeweller in 1792.
It seems that William Basnett the elder was the jeweller listed in 1792 and testator of the Will granted probate in 1813. William Basnett the younger probably entered the mark in 1813, was listed in Milsom Street in 1819, entered the marks in 1833 and 1837 and was the testator of the Will which was granted probate in 1853.
