His father Josiah (Grimwade p.624) was made free in the Goldsmiths Company in 1781. An application was made in 1824 by a George Piercy for freedom by patrimony in that Company. It is noted on the document that he was born in 1784 and his father had been made free in 1781. It would seem that the indentures signed by him in 1798 to be the apprentice of Thomas Wallis may not have been fulfilled.
George Piercy is not known to have married or had children, particularly a son Josiah. He had a brother Josiah born in 1794. The mark of 1812 from 15 Upper Ashby Street in partnership with Josiah, previously attributed to his father, may have been with his brother as evidence has now come to light that Josiah junior was also a silversmith and likely to have been the one to enter a mark from 15 Upper Ashby Street in 1828, shortly after George had died.
