G Meriton is listed in the 1825 Pigot & Co's Directory REFERENCE TO LONDON as a watchcase maker.

George Meriton is listed as a watchcase maker in the 1833 St James Clerkenwell baptism record for his daughter Emma.

He was christened at St Luke, Finsbury in 1785, the son of Samuel and Sarah. His father is shown on the church record as a grocer which may be a (clerical?) error in view of the entry at pages 594-5 of Grimwade’s book and the indentures signed in 1800 for George to be apprentice to his uncle Thomas (Grimwade p.595) which both refer to Samuel as a goldsmith.
He married Jane Crowther at Christ Church in 1815.
Christening records of their children at various London churches record their address as Clerkenwell Green, Clerkenwell in 1817, John’s Lane, Clerkenwell in 1818, Leonard Street in 1823 and Allen Street in 1833.
He did not enter maker’s marks at Goldsmiths Hall until 1835, then as a watch case maker from 4 Little Mitchell Street, St Luke’s.
The 1861 Census records note that George lost his sight circa 1853.
