Re: WHITING, John James (Grimwade pp.699, 771)
Contributor Silverly has pointed out that there is a second christening record for a John James Whiting, this one dated 13 September 1795 at St Giles, Cripplegate with the father named as Jno.This probably means that the child christened in 1790 did not survive.
The new year of birth has revealed further information for this silversmith;
1841 UK Census for Gloucester Street, Shoreditch as a silversmith aged 45 years,
1851 UK Census for 108 Bunhill Row as a silversmith aged 55 years employing 7 men.

The "clincher" on the birth date of 1795 and 1741 census date is the age given at death in 1857 of 62 .
Matches very well.
It seems macabre to us today, but in the eighteenth century it was quite normal if a child died early, for the name to be re-used.
