WHITFORD, William (No Grimwade entry)

Post by buckler »

Although not in Grimwade William Whitford almost certainly had marks in the lost registers.

Given in 1747 as William Whitford ,Bucklemaker of Main Street ,St Martin Le Grand (same address as Thomas Whitford for 1747 and Samuel Whitford for 1774) in Westminster Pollbooks: Votes in Westminster Elections, 1749-1820

Given as William Whitford ,Silversmith, Sugar Loaf Court ,Salisbury Court , Fleet Street in 1763 by Records of Sun Life Assurance Policy 195668 Sun Ass 11936 Vol145 page 462

Fined for substandard silver buckles in the mid 1760’s, William was listed as a bucklemaker at Salisbury Court in the Parliamentary Report 1773, and annoted "dead"by George Fair on the Goldsmiths Hall copy of the report so he probably died in late 1773 or 1774.

Heal gives two references to him as silversmith near Foster Lane 1753, and London 1773

Catherine Whitford who entered (as Cattern Whitford ) a mark as bucklemaker on 7th April 1774 at Sugar Loaf Court , Salisbury Court, Fleet Street.was almost certainly his widow or daughter.
