SWEET, John (Grimwade p.391)

Post by buckler »

According to Jackson, Henry and John Sweet were Exeter silversmiths, both first mentioned 1791. John Sweet (Snr) is given as a working goldsmith and jeweller, last mentioned 1823, died 1830, and Henry Sweet as last mentioned 1801.

They registered a joint mark in London in November 1792 as bucklemakers at Christopher’s Alley Moorfields — probably an accomodation address

John Sweet appears in the Militia List 1803, Parish of St John, Exeter on Schedule B . The Constable's List (Militia List) of the Parish of Saint Petrock, Exon.He is listed as Bucklemaker , and "willing to serve" !
